My Star Chasing Society
It always struck me as odd that people would dedicate "news" shows to celebrities in our culture.
I'm not really a person that goes around chasing celebrity. Not only am I not awed by celebrities, many of them just upset me. Especially the ones that are celebrities merely on the fact that they won the genetic lottery.
Some people do really get into following the every move of their Hollywood idols.
But this appearently pales in comparison to the devotion that movie fans in India give to their Bollywood idols.
Bollywood is much like our Hollywood, but its in India. It is said that they produce more movies than Hollywood, and according to recent news creates a much more loyal fan base.
Rajkumar starred in over 200 films in his Bollywood career. He died April 12 of a heart attack at the age of 77.
Bangalore rioted on Saturday.
Yes, a major city in one of the most populus countries in the world rioted after being denied the opportunity to see the coffin of the movie star.
I suppose it puts our star attractions into some perspective. While I'm not really that interested in the daily Brangelina report, it's facinating to see a large population out in the world more star obsessed than our culture.
